I usually refrain from making comments about politics except to say that I’m tired of being here… but I found this on someone’s blog and liked it:
Silence in America:
* Over four hundred American soldiers killed in Iraq since the beginning of the war 283 since Bush declared that the war was over. Silence.
* Constitutional rights being suspended via the Patriot Act. Silence.
* Bush urges us to support the troops, while cutting pay and benefits for the military. Silence.
* Prisoners detained and held indefinitely without charges in Guantanamo Bay. Silence.
I remember last year’s fights I had with my students about this war and wonder what they are thinking now… and hope that their thinking has changed a little as they become more informed (hopefully) about the situation.
It’s amazing how “blind” I can make myself whenever I don’t want to have to deal with something. I just can’t deal with this war. If I did, I would leave this country today.
